How much would it cost for an Attorney to write a child custody order?
Pammy1 asked:
I found a lawyer that charges $250 an hour to handle my child custody issue. I am curious about what a lawyer charges just to complete a child custody order. Does a lawyer based the fee on the number of hours it takes to complete an child custody order?

Well that depends on what is going into writing the custody order. Is this lawyer going with you to court dates and mediation? Are they drafting up post judgement motions or filing for child support for you?
When our lawyer drafted up the order (just talking about the order, not the mediation/court/etc), we were billed for her actual time spent writing it up, the time it took to file it with the courts, and any postage or fees that were associated with the filing of the paperwork. If you ask them, they should be able to give you a pretty simple breakdown of what they would charge before doing so.
Ask around and let them know exactly what you want so you can get a firm answer on prices. Also check your local court, there are usually self help centers that will provide you the paperwork all you have to do is fill it in and turn it in….it can be much much cheaper than going through any attorney.
Yeah, I would say ask around a bit. You can actually call a few lawyers..they should be able to give you an idea of the cost. I would start your search at sites like the ones below. Good Luck!
